amanda w 1966 Volkswagen Beetle 2dr Convertible

horsehair heaven

This might be boring to most folks but my mother had 2 friends she used to work with that she kept in touch with after she quit there. Helen had bought a new volkswagen beetle around 1966. They would visit often and I was around 5 or 6 years old and would play in the luggage area of that was like a cubby hole. I would hide out in it. I would hang on the hand grips like Tarzan. But I never forgot that smell. I didnt know why volkswagen had that smell untill I bought a 1973 standard beetle. Come to find out it was the horsehair seat stuffing. I love that smell ! And all old vw's have it. It takes me back to a time in my childhood that I would not trade for anything. Just goes to show that all classics dont have to be about horsepower , just horsehair!
