My wife and I were married in 1966. She was 20 and I was 21. We were broke but didn't know it. My folks were kind enough to give us their car which was a 1959 Chevy Impala 2 door coupe. It was a really nice car and we considered ourselves lucky, although at that time it was not anything special. The 60's had just hit hard with the muscle cars and of course that was out of the question because of costs. I was working at a mens clothing store for 95 cents and hour and my wife was working at a womens department store for 1.10 an hour. We lived in a little town of 14 thousand in the middle of Kansas so that was par for the course.
On our wedding night we came out of the church after the wedding and of course my buddies had decorated our car. Someone had used white shoe polish and written the normal wedding sayings that you see on a car. The thing is they had written it on the paint not the windows.
After our one night honeymoon (had to be at work on Monday) I washed the car as soon as possible. Didn't notice anything unusual. Then one morning I walked out of the house and the sun was shining on the car just right and you could see everything that had been written on the car. I worked and worked on getting it off and couldn't get rid of it. No matter what, you could see just married and other things that I can't mention. I finally went and traded it in on something I can't even remember. I didn't think much of what I did, but in just the last few years the 59's have become so popular and pricy I wished I had never gotten rid of it. I still think about that car and kick myself to this day on getting rid of it.
