Our Volkswagen Club decided to meet another club at Roan Mountain State Park in East Tennessee for our August meet. My granddaughter, who was nearly 16, had been promised the convertible beetle for several years, so I invited her to go with me in the yellow bug, top down. When we left home, the sun was shining brightly and it was very warm. She had on shorts, and of course no one wore jackets,; after all it is usually hot in August, right? Well, we had our dinner on the mountain, enjoyed watching the beautiful scenery, and talking VWs with the groups. We noticed that after the sun disappeared, it had gotten windy and chilly. But the ride home, even after we put the top back up, was so cold that we promised to always have a jacket, and a blanket packed in that car from then on. She is now 19, has been driving the car for three years, and that UT orange blanket is still there for those cold evenings!
