TAVARES W 1978 Chevrolet Malibu Classic 2dr Sport Coupe

GRADUATION DAY!!!

NOW I WILL START THIS STORY OFF BY SAYING THAT MY CAR IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING THE MOST POPULAR BY ANY STRETCH .. WHEN ASKED TO PUT MY MAKE AND MODEL AND YEAR IN HAGERTY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE MY YEAR. BUT I LOVE MY CAR AND THE YEAR IT WAS MANUFACTURED!

IM FROM THE WEST COAST, PRIMARILY THE BAY AREA AND MY STORY STARTS OFF IN THE MIDWEST PRIMARY MISSOURI. I WENT TO A MIDWEST COLLEGE AND THAT'S WHERE MY STORY BEGINS. YOU SEE BEFORE GAS PRICES WHERE THROUGH THE ROOF I COULD FILL UP ON A DOLLAR OR SO A GALLON OF GAS. 23 BUCKS AND FILL UP WAS COMPLETE AND WE ARE TALKING AROUND 1999. ANYWAYS I HAVE DIGRESSED. WHEN I STARTED GOING TO A MIDWEST SCHOOL I HAD 2 OPTIONS LEAVE IT AT HOME OR BRING IT WITH ME AND FOR ME THERE WAS ONLY ONE REAL DECISION AND THAT WAS TO BRING IT ALONG FOR THE RIDE. EVERY BREAK MY CAR CAME HOME AND AFTER THE BREAK CAME BACK WITH ALWAYS MAKING IT'S WAY FROM ONE END OF THE COUNTRY TO THE OTHER. I LOVED DRIVING IT ACROSS DIFFERENT STATE LINES. I WOULD GET SO MANY THUMBS UP AND HEY I LIKE YOUR CAR. WE'LL THE VERY LAST TIME MY CAR WOULD SEE MISSOURI, I WRECKED IT AND THATS WHERE THE STORY BEGINS OF COURSE AFTER I GRADUATED I DROVE IT HOME. DECEMBER GRADUATION IS WHAT I HAD AND SNOW WAS AROUND. I DROVE THE UP FROM THE MISSOURI TO NEBRASKA OVER FROM NEBRASKA AND INTO WYMOMING. THAT'S WHERE MY CAR SLID ON BLACK ICE AND HIT A BIG RIG. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO MAD IN MY LIFE. I HAD ALL MY STUFF IN THIS CAR, COMPLETELY LOADED DOWN TO THE TILT. STUCK ON SIDE OFF THE ROAD WITH NO RECEPTION AND NO BODY STOPING TO SEE IF I NEEDED HELP. EVENTUALLY HIGHWAY PATROL CAME BY CALLED ME A TOW TRUCK. THE PRICES FOR GETTING STUCK IN WYOMING AND GETTING TOWED A COUPLE MILES WHERE OUTRAGES BUT HEY I HAD TO PAY IT. HE WAS A NICE ENOUGH GUY WHO TOWED ME TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP. THEY FIGURED THAT MY CAR COULD STILL DRIVE IF THEY PULLED THE RADIATOR SUPPORT SO THAT THE CLUTCH FAN COULD STILL SPIN AND I WOULD BE ABLE TO RATTLE ON HOME. AND THATS WHAT I DID! WITH A BENT UP HOOD, FENDERS AND A DRIVER SIDE DOOR I COULD BARELY OPEN. WHEN I GOT IT HOME I PARKED IT IN MY PARENTS DRIVE WAY. MY CAR WAS NO LONGER BEAUTIFUL AND THERE WAS NO WAY I WAS GOING TO JUNK IT. SO I HAD ADECISION TO MAKE TO GRADUAUTE SCHOOL RIGHT AWAY OR TAKE SOME AUTOBODY CLASSES AT THE LOCAL CITY COLLEGE. WE'LL I DECIDED TO TAKE A COUPLE OF CLASSES AND GET MY BABY BACK ON THE ROAD. LEARNED ALL I NEEDED TO KNOW AND STARTED THE REBUILD. NOW MOST MIGHT THINK THAT WAS A BAD DECISION BUT FOR ME. IM GLAD I DID IT. I NEVER BECAME A MECHANIC BUT I CAN TELL YOU THIS IS KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT MY BABY THAT I CAN HELP OUT ANYONE WHO MAY NEED. MANY YEARS LATER I RESTORED AN 75 EL CAMINO AND GETS THE SAME LOOKS THE MALIBU GETS AND I WOULDN'T CHANGE THAT FOR THE WORLD. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURE I DID A PRETTY GOOD JOB RESTORING IT AND BELIEVE ME I DID RESTORE IT..
