I had just moved to Punta Gorda, Florida from cold Michigan City, Indiana 18 days ago when I see a flyer advertizing for the 4th Annual National Collector Car Appreciation Day Free Cruise-In at nationally known Rick Treworgy's Muscle Car City. I have owned my '58 Chevy Impala Sport Coupe for six years but had never been to a cruise-in or entered a show. I had just gotten the car back right before Mother's Day fresh from a two year restoration so I figured, what the heck. You should drive over and check this out since it was essentially in my new back yard. The weather was hot and sunny and the turn out for Friday was about 150 cars. I was in awe. I parked my Chevy and started to stroll the aisles of cars. When i returned to my car the card from the Sun Newspaper Columnist (Don Royston) was taped to my windshield. In the margin it read "Call me before you leave today for photos". Around noon they started the calling out the day's winning cars; and much to my surprise my name was the second called out to receive the "Muscle Car City Show Favorite" trophy. I was blown away. After the awards, Don cornered my for photos and personal information about my experiences with my car so he could write up a story in his upcoming column. Again I was left nearly speechless. I don't think I'll ever feel as great, even if there are more trophies in my future. The first is always the best. This was certainly a special occasion for me.
