In 1978 I was in 8th grade and I was a fully indoctrinated Mopar fanatic, thanks a good friend's older brothers' affinity for 'Cudas and Challengers. Looking through the Car Trader one day I saw an ad for a '71 RT 440-six pak, pistol grip, Dana...the works, I think they wanted $1600. The next day I was riding with my friend and his big brother across town to see the car. It was a beautiful red with white stripes and white interior --quite rare. He bought it on the spot and I was left to ride home with my 8th grade friend driving his 19 year old brother's Trans Am! I remember seeing the Challenger smoke the tires in 3 gears, and we were left on our own. Quite and adventure for a couple of 13 year olds.
We were often "rewarded" for washing that car with his brother treating us to 110 mph rides down the highway (never realizing the danger we were in, of course).
My friend still owns the car today, cleverly purchasing from his brother many years ago.
Myself? I have my '72 'Cuda to keep me company. And my 3 young sons are creating some of their own Mopar memories.
