In 2012 I was returning to my home in Columbia, SC from the Nostalgia Drag Races in Bowling Green, KY when my car developed a most unusual problem. The engine would quit running every time I slowed to forty miles per hour. After much trial and error it turned out the only way I could get going was to hold the gas pedal down, crank the engine with the automatic transmission in neutral and when the engine would rev to the 4000 RPMs, pull the transmission in gear. You can imagine the smoke and noise this creates.
Now this worked just fine when I was alone but the time came when I was faced with the stalling problem and a Georgia State Trooper was asking me why I was stopped at the side of the road in such busy traffic. I explained my problem to him and told him I would have to do what he may term as an "Excessive Demonstration Of Horsepower" to get going again. After I related to him what I needed to do, he thought for a moment and replied, "Well, just don't hit anything". He was a nice guy.
When I told him I would need a little break in the traffic to accomplish my procedure, I asked him if he would be willing to pull behind my car and turn those nice blue lights on. That should stall the rubber necks and give me time to get out. Well he did his thing and I did my thing and I laughed all the way home.
Later I found out who his boss was and wrote his boss a letter telling him how the trooper had helped me out, not what he let me do.
