Keith W 1967 Ford Mustang 2dr Coupe

A Friends gift to me

Back in 1967 I was at Robert E Lee High School in Houston Texas. I was 16 years old. When the Mustang came out in 1964 I fell in love with that car. I wanted one so bad but I was only 13 years old in 64. When I turned 16 I started looking for my first car. I had a paper route so i didnt have alot of money but I had about a thousand dollars saved up. The Mustang had been out a few years now. I looked in the newspaper every day in the classified section used cars. I knew I couldn't afford a new one but maybe I could find a used one. Mustangs were very popular in Houston and they were everywhere except in the want adds. I could not find a used one anywhere and if there was one it was still out of my price range by about $500.00 . I finally gave up looking and ended up with a very nice 64 Plymouth Barracuda for $995.00. It was white with black interior and push button automatic and power steering with under the dash air conditioning. It was a very clean car and had the 273 V8 and I was happy. Then one day a friend of mine drove up in his brand new 1967 Mustang. It was wimbledon white with red interior. It was beautiful. He stopped and he saw I was very excited about his new Mustang. Then he said " do you want to drive it" . I couldn't believe he was going to let me drive his Mustang. I said yes and got in. It was a dream come true for me....I was at the wheel of my dream car. I drove around the block then he asked if I wanted to peel out in it. I couldn't believe he would actually let me peel out in his new Mustang. We went in front of this girls house that I had a crush on and I layed a black tire mark at least 10 feet long in front of her house. I am 63 years old now but I still remember the nice guy that let me drive his Mustang , however now I can't even remember his name. I wish I could find him one more time and just let him know how special it was of him to let someone have a dream come true by driving that Mustang. I guess thats the reason now that I have a red 1967 Ford Mustang of my very own.
