Michael T 1981 Chevrolet Corvette 2dr Coupe

Where has the time gone.

14 years ago in October I was thumbing through the Auto Trader and found an 81 Corvette listed for $5500. That was in my price range, so I called and made an appointment to meet the owner and look at the car. The next day I told my wife that I was taking a ride to look at a car and told her I would take our daughter, who was two at the time. I buckled her in her car seat and off we went for the 45 minute ride. As I pulled into the driveway I saw a lady doing gardening. I got out of the car and told her that I was here to look at the Corvette that she had for sale. She informed me that there were 12 other people that were interested in the car as well, and that someone was actually test driving the car as we spoke. I remember looking around and seeing a new Jag and Lexus in the driveway and her telling me that her daughter had just turned 16. I asked her why she just wouldn't let her daughter drive the Corvette, she looked at me and told me because they just bought her a new Range Rover for her 16th birthday. I told her that I had a daughter as well and couldn't imagine her turning 16, that it seemed so long away. She asked me how old my daughter was. I told her two and that I actually brought her along with me. She asked to see her, so I walked her over to my truck and there was my daughter sound asleep in her seat. The lady fell in love with her as soon as she saw her. By this time the person came back from the test drive and told the her that he would take the car. She told him that there were 12 more people that were coming to look at the car and that she would let him know who she decided to sell the car to. He wasn't even out of the driveway and she told me that she wanted my daughter to have the car. So because of my daughter, I was the lucky one that got the car. It was in need of some TLC, but it was all original and had low miles.

Fast forward 14 years and now my daughter is 16 and didn't get the Corvette either, she's got my pickup. My 14 year old son is the one that thinks he is getting the car. I told him the story and if anyone is getting the car, it will be his sister because she is the reason that we have the car in the first place. So now he is eying my 62 T-Bird!
