When the door opens to the collector car world

I've always had an interest in cars as a child. I remember riding along in the back of my parent's green Ford Taurus wagon (the ones with the third seats in the trunk facing the rear), eyeballing any classic that rolled by. One in particular caught my eye- I didn't know what it was at the time but you better believe I looked into it and I know now! It was a 1968 (or 69... definitely late 60's and not the boxier 70's model) Chevrolet El Camino SS with a blower sticking out of the hood. I remember my jaw dropping as the car went rumbling by. The driver saw this little girl with her nose against the rear window staring at his car, mouth wide open, and he slowed down to pass me again with a big smile and a wave. I'll never forget it. I'm sure my cheeks flushed bright red as I returned the driver's wave. Although I had an interest in classics before seeing the El Camino, it was this experience that really opened up the doors to the collector car world.

Now grown, I have several cars including my 1961 Cadillac, 1952 Ford, and 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata. My laundry list of cars gets longer by the day, but I still have the nagging voice in the back of my mind telling me I must have a satin black 1969 El Camino SS, blower and all...

Always enjoy an El Camino story, good job. If you want it bad enough, it will happen.
