Shelley A 1976 Pontiac Firebird 2dr Coupe

First Time I saw a Trans AM, Oh, so cool! I want one!

I was 16 and was at the Teenagers hangout strip we called Brookside. It was a road where kids drove their cars up and down all night showing off the cool cars they had and meeting other kids. It was early 1970's. One night I saw this white Trans AM all decked out in blue. It was Love at first sight. I wanted that car so bad but no way could my parents get it for me. I could not buy with my part time job either, I was still in high school. So I wished for one for many years. Then in summer of 1977 I saw the movie Smoky and the Bandit. I again fell harder in Love with that car. So I decided at that point I was going to get one. So I started looking for one. In 1978 I got serious about it, I could not afford a brand new one cause it was $12,000 fully decked out. So I started looking for a used one. Most had 70,000 miles already or more. I stumbled onto a 1976 Firethorn Red one which I thought was cool and only had 22,000 miles on it. Weren't many of those around that color and it was a metallic red to boot so I bought it with my dad's help cosigning for me the $5,500 loan. I drove it home on my 22nd Birthday. I drove that car for about 25 years every day. Took my son to school in it, went to work and Went all the way to Central Mexico in it too. We made many vacation trips in it. I still have the car. I'm Too attached to get rid of it. 5 years ago we started restoring it. So someday soon I hope to drive it again and she will be pretty as ever and faster than ever. It only had 125,000 miles on it when I retired it. So Old Red as we call her is getting renewed to her former glory days! I just wish now that day would hurry up and get here so I can drive it again! And get all the Oooh's and Ahhh's people say when they see her.
