Equipment
The only 1st generation Z 28 convertible, built by Vince Piggins to convince Pete Estes of the value of making several high performance parts Chevy options for Trans Am racing. Dual quad cross ram intake, P B, no P S, buckets and console, console gauges, AM FM with quadraphonic adapter, P W, Konis, equal length tube headers, transistor ignition, 4 wheel disc brakes, fiberglass hood, Rally wheels. All correct and as built according to the owner. Impressively restored and presented in better than new condition.
Market commentary
Sold at Mecum Auctions Rockford sale in 91 for around $170K, carefully reassembled with rare performance parts which were taken off before it was sold to a Chevy engineer after Piggins effort was successful. The current owner noted that theyd bought an original sub 10k mile Camaro, just to get the authentic disc brake rear axle. The one and only, with a unique and significant history. Bid to $1 million at Rockford earlier this year, the owner apparently has fallen under the sway of an elaborate value forecast which has convinced him its worth a mil and a quarter. Bidders have now twice voted with their paddles and theyre saying the charts and second order regressions are wrong.
