Market commentary
Offered at Barrett Jackson in 2001 fresh from restoration, it brought a bid of $91,000 but didnt sell. It fared better at RMs Amelia Island auction in 2005 where it had 134 fewer miles on the odometer and was sold for $128,700. Its price today tells a story, not only of the escalation in value of rare Fifties convertibles but also in the continuing value of the very best restorations, like this, which get quality care and stay sharp and crisp for years. It would be silly to say this car is well bought, or anything similar, but it did bring a reasoble premium over the nearly as well restored Bonneville that sold for $170,500 at Barrett Jackson this week.
