Equipment
1911/75hp, 4-speed, wheel covers.
Condition
#3 Good
Runs and drives well. Flaws not noticeable to passersby. Most common condition.
One of the earliest known DSs sold in this country, and believed to be the oldest still in existence. Stored in California from 1960 to 2010, then mechanically recommissioned while retaining its patina. The paint, chrome and rubber are all tired, and there are serious scrapes, chips and a few small dents, but it’s all part of the charm, as are the interesting Citroen badges. The interior is significantly worn and faded, and has the charmingly basic layout of the early cars.
Market commentary
It may not have met Gooding's ambitious estimate, but this is still a massive price for what is essentially just a standard DS19 with scruffy looks and some interesting early features. It's not clear if it was the originality or the early build date that helped the sale more, but they both contributed a lot.
