Equipment
RHD. The first home market Mk IX, winner of the 1955 1172 Formula Championship driven by Michael MacDowel. Meticulously preserved for many years in the Okada collection in Japan, then sympathetically re commissioned in the UK 2002 04. Its originality is startling and it further attested by a statement from Michael MacDowel, its first owner and assembler of the kit of parts bought from Lotus. Eligible for anything and has run both the MM Storica and Monaco Historics. Comes with all needed documentation and much history.
Market commentary
Its worth keeping in mind that the Ford in the Mark IXs name isnt one of the later hot Lotus motors. Its a warmed up side valve engine from the Ford Ten, the source also of the Mark IXs brakes, gearbox and rear axle. Thats a somewhat underwhelming specification, but one that is largely made up by the exceptional originality and preservation of this specimen and its demonstrated attractiveness to event organizers and promoters. Its a reasonably priced ticket pretty much anywhere it wants to go.
