Equipment
3442/210hp, 5-speed Borg-Warner gearbox, front disc brakes, chrome wire wheels, blackwall tires, fender mirrors. The original Moss gearbox with overdrive comes with the car.
Condition
Done impressively and accurately with quality paint, interior, chrome and beautiful interior wood. Crisp, sharp gauges. Show-polished engine. It's sensibly upgraded without affecting its original appearance and despite being toured appears to be nearly pristine.
Market commentary
Are there conclusions to be drawn from this result, or at least inferences? Only four cars at St. John's this year sold for over their high estimate and of them this Jag at 21.4% over the high estimate was the highest. What is its appeal? The performance of the smooth-shifting B-W T-5 is a big selling point. The safety of the front wheel disc brakes, too. And it is a drophead, with decent weather protection to go with the touring satisfaction of the other two upgrades. Collectors' preference for cars that can actually be used is a positive for the hobby and the bidders here at St. John's can be applauded for recognizing this XK 140MC's appeal for a Sunday drive, even at significant cost.
