Equipment
RHD. Chrome spoke, outside laced Borrani wire wheels, chrome sill moldings, Marchal headlights. Fifth in the Carrera Panamericana in 1952 driven by Jack and Ernie McAfee for Tony Parravano. Later owned by Dick Merritt, bought by Gordon Thomas in 1980 and restored before being shown at Pebble Beach in 1990. Still in show quality condition when it won the Forza Ferrari Award at the 2002 FCA National Meeting. Mechanically recommissioned since then by Patrick Ottis and in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition. Ferrari Classiche certified.
Market commentary
Bid to 600,000 Euros on the block and, somewhat amazingly, closed later at this surprisingly modest result for its condition and important ownership and North American racing history. Even if the crank falls out of the block upon being started up the owner got full value for the money at this price, and that even in skimpy old US$.
