Equipment
RHD. The first of six built, ordered by King George VI for the Duke of Edinburgh, later owned by Max Bygraves. An older restoration by Hooper showing its age, described in the catalog as in charming overall condition. 85hp engine is no match for the elaborate and heavy coachwork; the Sport in its model name is more appropriate to the driver than to the car.
Market commentary
Reportedly sold by Coys 12 5 02 for $55,896 (+35,600; +3,300 less than todays transaction). Spectacular swoopy coachwork with skirted rear fenders and a fully covered power top. The height of elegance and style in 1950. Even the fender mirrors are on sweeping elongated stalks. This is a reasonable price for its history, style and the fact that it couldnt pull the skin off a pudding.
