An old friend, the Babe Ruth Continental. Its restoration, done for Michael Dingman a few years ago, is still over the top. Its Babe Ruth history is still completely unsubstantiated. That aside, if it isnt the best 1940 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet in the world its so close that it makes no difference and it has been carefully preserved in concours condition for several years, attesting to the quality of its workmanship and materials.
Market commentary
Sold by RM in Arizona in tired, mostly original condition in 2001 for $110,000 and subsequently given a nut and bolt concours quality restoration before being sold by RM at its auction of Michael Dingmans collection in 2006 for $407,000, a price that amazed onlookers (and is still amazing.) Still fresh and sharp, it sold for $148,500 at RMs Arizona auction in 2008. Its settled down to a reasonable price reflecting the quality of the car, which is impossible to fault.
