Equipment
Chrome wire wheels, dual rear spares, Mother of Pearl instrument panel, white steering wheel, driving light, dual spotlights. Great paint and chrome except for a small repair on the trunk. Trim and interior are pristine. Described as one of three special cabriolets built early in the 540K run with radiator set back behind the front wheel centerline and low windshield. No pre restoration history is given. 1996 Pebble Beach class winner in Red, subsequently re restored in its current livery and even better with Forest Grove and Pebble Beach honors in 2006 to show for it.
Market commentary
Offered by RM at Monterey in 2004 it brought an unsuccessful high bid of $1,100,000. It is a much different, and better, car now than it was then and the combition of its very unusual body style and concours condition make it a sound acquisition at this price. Even though its been shown at Pebble it has plenty of concours appearances before it and should consistently reward its new owner with trophies and awards.
