Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

RHD. Single sidemounted spare, cycle fenders, road lights, dual aeroscreens, electric fan. 1933 French GP winner driven by Giuseppe Campari, also driven by Luigi Fagioli, then by Borzacchini and Siena. Restored by Peter Shaw in the late 70s for Bob Sutherland, now with somewhat tired old paint and showing 20 years enthusiastic use. 220hp 3 liter supercharged straight eight, hydraulic brakes.

Market commentary

Camparis 1933 French GP win was a storied victory over Phillipe Etancelin on an Alfa Monza, Campari several times losing the lead due to excessive tire wear before passing Etancelin on the last lap of the 12km course. Much of 3001s original engine has gone the way of most race car engines and the body was re created during the restoration, which might account for the relatively modest price (if over a million bucks can ever be called modest.)
