Equipment
Twin rear spares, outside exhaust headpipes, spotlight, Zeiss headlights, rumble seat. Top retracts nearly flush and side windows roll down under hinged covers on the doors, earning it the Roadster Cabriolet description. First owned by Roxy Rothafel, owner of the U.S. theater chain. Engine and transmission from another 1929 SS but matching chassis and body; origil headlights were Grebels. Meticulously and freshly restored to concours condition and even more attractive than a Sindelfingen SS.
Market commentary
This is Bonhams SS year: first the SSK at Goodwood for $7.5 million and now this spectacular SS by Castag. The SSK may have more presence (and the right engine) but this Roadster Cabriolet has more style. It is a good value at this price.
