Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

Horace Dodges personal speedboat, Horace, powered by a 650hp Wright Typhoon V12, believed to be only surviving example. Meticulously restored in 2001 with a West System bottom. Stored at the Dodge familys home until 1983. 37 1 2 feet of speed and power, reportedly with storage capacity for 5 barrels of whiskey on the short run across the Detroit River from Canada during Prohibition. Good varnish although with some dust and dirt inclusions. Tight seams. This is a real piece of history.

Market commentary

$200K would have bought Horace and it would have been money well spent. This is a wonderful, historic boat with a legendary engine. It belongs somewhere in the Detroit area where it started its life.
