Equipment
Reputed to be the oldest English built motor car to survive, built by Santler in Malvern. Powered by a Benz engine of the period. Pretty comprehensively documented and accepted by the VCC. Veteran of many Brighton runs.
Market commentary
Brought more than 2 1 2 times Christies low estimate and the hammer bid beat the high by over 60%. With results like this its hard to argue that interest in antique cars is dying. In fact it seems to be undergoing an enthusiastic renewal arguably as a new generation of innovators and entrepreneurs appreciate the creativity and perseverance of early auto pioneers.
