Model overview

Model description

One year after putting the supercar world on notice with the ZR1, Chevrolet introduced another new version of the Corvette for the 2010 model year, called the Grand Sport. Like the ZR1, the Grand Sport is another callback to a previous model. It joined a lineup that included the base Coupe and Convertible as well as the Z06.

The cornerstone of the lineup was the base Coupe, and its 6.2-liter V8. This engine was also found in the Convertible, sending 430 horsepower through either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Buyers could also get the Corvette Z06 with its hand-built 7.0-liter, 505-hp V8 as well as handling upgrades and special wide bodywork.

The Grand Sport name harkens back to the vehicle of the same name from 1963, a race car designed to compete with the Shelby Cobra. There was also a limited-edition performance version of the C4 Corvette called the Grand Sport in 1996. The 2010 Corvette Grand Sport combined the base LS3 power plant with a widebody setup and performance upgrades designed for the track. If you cared about cornering but didn’t need any more horsepower, the Grand Sport was the car for you. Think of it like a Z06 with a base engine. The Grand Sport was offered as both a Coupe and Convertible.

The top of the lineup was still the ZR1 with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 making an astonishing 638 horsepower. Of the 12,194 Corvettes sold in 2010, the ZR1 made up 1,577 of them. Chevrolet only sold 518 examples of the Z06. 1003 base Convertibles were sold that year, as were 3054 Coupes. There were 2335 examples of the Grand Sport Convertible sold in 2010, while the 3707 units of the Grand Sport Coupe made it the most popular trim of that year.
