Model overview

Model description

Not one to mess with a good thing, Dodge left the Dart alone for 1969, with only minor front and rear changes. But Dodge did introduce a new model called the Swinger, which was an economy version of the GTS, similar to how the Super Bee was to the Coronet.

Listing for $2,400, the Swinger two-door hardtop could be equipped with any engine from the base 115 bhp 170 cid six to the 180 bhp 273 cid V-8, 340 cid V-8 and even the 330 bhp 383 cid Magnum V-8. It was fitted with Rallye suspension, stiffer shocks, GTS power bulge hood, and dual exhaust.

What had been the mid-range 270 was now the Dodge Dart Custom. It could be fitted with the 115 bhp or 145 bhp slant six engines, while V-8s included the 275 bhp 340 or the 335 bhp 383 Magnum. Prices started at $2,550.

The Dodge Dart GT was the next level up and cost from $2,672 as a two-door hardtop and $2,856 for a convertible. The GT could be had with any of the four engines Meanwhile the GTS hardtops and convertibles were the top line Darts. All were fitted with V-8s and 6,700 were sold, divided between both models.

Options included air conditioning, automatic transmission, power steering, power steering, console for GT and GTS, tinted glass, AM radio, AM/FM radio, 8-track, and woodgrain sport steering wheel.

Dodge offered 28 exterior colors for the 1969 Dart, and seven interior colors. They included Silver, Light Blue, Bright Blue, Medium Blue, Dark Blue, Cordovan, Light Green, Medium Green, Bright Green, Dark Green, Beige, Light Turquoise, Bright Turquoise, Charger Red, Red, Light Bronze, Copper, Dark Bronze, White, Black, Yellow, Cream, Gold, Citron Gold, Bahama Yellow, Orange, Rally Green, and special order Hemi Orange. Two-tone paint jobs were available and could involve any of the colors offered, in any order. Interior colors were Copper, Black, Blue, Turquoise, Tan, Red, Green and White, available in vinyl or vinyl and cloth.
