Full slate of events at Amelia Island in 2012

The 17th annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance takes place on Sunday, March 11. Special classes this year include a tribute to the 50th anniversary of both the Ferrari GTO and Shelby Cobra. Also highlighted will be special bodied Cadillacs both pre- and post-war, Chevrolet’s Styling Department Corvettes, and Cover Cars of Road & Track. Legendary rally and road racer “Quick” Vic Elford will serve as Honorary Chairman.

The entire weekend is packed with events, beginning on Thursday, March 8, with a silent auction, Automotive Fine Arts Society exhibit that runs through the weekend, and a Rolls-Royce Wine Makers Dinner, all taking place at the host resort, Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island.

Friday kicks off early with a Porsche Driving Experience and the Marque Car Road Tour for cars entered in Sunday’s special classes. Nearby, at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation, Gooding & Company will host its now-annual sale, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Later in the day, the first of three on-site seminars kick off. At 2 p.m. Hagerty is presenting the free seminar “Defying the Economy: Enzo-Era Ferraris, Shelbys and Other Blue Chip Classic Cars.” Panelists include Ferrari expert Michael Sheehan, Shelby authority Colin Comer, and Hagerty Price Guide Publisher Dave Kinney.

Friday evening, the duPont Registry will host a weekend kick-off party alongside the consignments slated for RM’s auction on Saturday.

Saturday begins with the “Great Endurance Drivers” seminar, which features some of the greatest racers of the last 40 years. RM’s annual sale kicks off at 10 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Ritz, and later in the day, both Breitling and Mercedes-Benz will host cocktail and dinner galas, respectively.

Finally, Sunday is dedicated to showing and viewing nearly 300 of the world’s greatest cars, as the concours kicks off at 9:30 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m. It will be held on the 10th and 18th fairways of the Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach.
