A perfect McLaren F1 now costs $15.62 million

Bonhams just sold the first McLaren F1 imported into the U.S. for $15.62 million, including buyer’s premium. That’s almost $2 million more than the last F1 that went up for auction, and over a million more than our current valuation for #1 examples of the car. Which is to say, don’t expect F1 prices to come down any time soon. In fact, the price is almost a 50 percent rise in value from just three years ago. The 1995 McLaren F1, consigned by its original owner, is the biggest single sale at the Bonhams 2017 Quail Lodge Auction and one of the most anticipated—and expensive—lots of this year’s Monterey Car Week.

If nothing else, the rise only adds to the mystique of McLaren’s three-seater. And if you’re still wiping off your screen from a spit-take when you saw that sold figure, bear in mind this car is about the cleanest McLaren F1 you’ll ever see. As we mentioned in our preview, this single-owner car was number 44 in the production order and legally imported to the U.S. when new. This F1 only has 9,600 miles on the odometer, half of which were added in a drive straight from the factory to various destinations throughout Europe. We only hope the new owner enjoys at least as much time behind the wheel.
