Report: Porsche Is Planning a New 911 Dakar
After selling out all 2500 examples of the 911 Dakar Porsche will be back for more by the end of 2025, according to insider information published by Autocar.
The British automotive outlet says that “senior sources” at Porsche confirmed that a new model of the all-terrain elfer is currently under development at the company’s Weissach engineering center. Built on the facelifted 992 the new Dakar is set to be even more potent than its predecessor thanks to adopting the T-Hybrid powertrain from the 911 GTS.
That would put a total of 532 horsepower through the car’s all-wheel drive system thanks to a combination of a 3.6-liter flat-six combustion engine with a single electric turbo and a 33 hp traction motor that sits between the ICE unit and the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. There’s only a small 1.9 kWh battery so the e-motor is purely designed to add additional performance.
That represents a significant 12 percent bump over the previous Dakar’s 475-hp twin-turbo three liter and should take a tenth or two off the 3.4 second 0-60 mph sprint. There’s an improved in fuel efficiency as well, meaning those dashes across the desert to be a little longer than before.
Autocar reckons that there’ll be even more ways to customize the Dakar, including new liveries and a host of options available through the Sonderwunsch program.
Most owners added significantly to the $223,650 base cost when ordering their Dakars and those examples that have hit the resale market tend to be pitched at $300,000 or above, suggesting that the appetite for limited-run off-road 911s is pretty strong. No wonder Porsche will be back with a sequel.
The rationale for buying one of these escapes me (assuming you actually want to drive your Porsche).
Who cares??
It’s no surprise they will do another batch of something that just prints money.
When your Porsche TRUCKS just don’t cut it anymore, spend another $300,000 U.S. on this!
……….and YES, your Cayenne and Macan are both TRUCKS………….Chris Harris agrees with me. It’s amazing what a great sports car company has to resort to to survive………..or more than likely just greed with $27,000 PTS.
I wouldn’t call it greed. They’re in business to produce whatever they can sell at a profit. That being said, I still think these are ridiculous.
In today’s world there’s never a shortage of “new” Porsche buyers with more money than brains. Realized their 5000 lb. Porsche trucks are not sports cars so they will solve it with a $300,000.00 Dakar with their their $27,000 “PTS” selection that will look great sitting in the garage.
………..where have all the purist’s for this marque gone?
Cheers to the marketeers !!! Incredible products in a saturated market !!! Tall hog at the trough—- PORSCHE, I am a buyer . I cannot wait to see the new Dakar.
