New Mustang FX Package Harkens Back to Fox-Body Era
If you didn’t know that the ’80s were cool again, here’s another reminder. Ford dialed up the contrast and saturation to take you back to the era of the Fox-Body with the new Mustang FX appearance package. You can essentially get the FX package in two flavors: Normal or Performance. We’ll detail what comes with what down below.

Both versions of the FX package bring new wheel designs finished in mid-gloss, Oxford White paint. Non-performance FX packages get a revised version of the existing five-spoke, 19-inch wheel (not pictured), while Performance FX package cars receive a ten-spoke design with a secondary ring around the bolt pattern (pictured below).

There’s also a nod to the 1987–93 Fox-Body on the rear window of coupe models, where a gloss-white “MUSTANG” appears just below the central brake light in a font similar to that of the old Fox-bodies. (Unlike the older ponies, however, you won’t get this same text on the front glass.) This little flourish is available on both the performance and non-performance versions of the FX package.

You’ll find a host of additional Oxford White embellishments around the exterior, including trim around the 5.0-liter, the GT, and the Mustang Pony badges, as well as around the “nostrils” in the sides of the front grille. (The white nostrils come on the performance versions of the FX pack; non-performance versions get carbonized grey inserts in place of the white ones.) Both versions of the FX package get the white taillamps standard. If these wheels or the white taillamps catch your eye, good news: Ford will make both components available through the Ford Performance Parts catalogue, too.

In addition to the FX package, Ford announced two paint colors, available across the Mustang lineup. The first is Adriatic Blue Metallic (shown here), very obviously inspired by the Teal tone that you could get on a Fox-Body, and quite in tune with the FX package’s Oxford White accents. Ford will also reintroduce Orange Fury Metallic Tricoat, a color that’s been absent since 2019, for the 2026 Mustang.

Inside Mustangs equipped with the FX Package, you’ll find new seat inserts that evoke the plaid inserts of the 1980s through clever black and white contrasting on the perforated leather. You can get the inserts on both the normal buckets and the optional Recaro sport seats. Dual-contrast stitching in City Silver and Adriatic Blue adorns the seats, dashboard, door panels, steering wheel, and the center console.

You can get the FX Package on all GT Premium models, regardless of transmission choice (six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic) or body style (convertible or coupe). Pricing information for the retro package will arrive when order banks for the 2026 Mustang open later this month.

I think it’s official… Ford has given up on the Mustang. I guess they’ll let the current platform coast for a year or two, then who knows where it goes… or even if it goes.
Not very appealing.
I just wonder how long Ford hangs on. Sales are to a level it is difficult to make. Business case for it.
They can’t get more expensive so what do they do to increase profitability?
You guys are crazy. This is awesome.
Next to a Dark Horse it look silly.
Those wheels ehhhh!
I like it too, but there is too much white on the wheels. I’d experiment with painting some of the wheel in the teal body color.
I don’t like the white bits, but otherwise the package is fun –mostly because of the almost teal. That colour was everywhere in the Ford lineup in the 90s.
Do a 90s purple as well…
I am an 80’s child and I want this
Concur ….it’s radical.
Would’ve been cool with a modern version of the 93 cobra wheel and only make it available in black red or teal.
When you let GenZ be in charge of retro, this is what happens.
If you want to pick an attribute of the Fox Mustang to bring forward in time, how about the affordable price? Ford lost the script on what a Mustang is supposed to be: affordable v8 power for the masses.
Right on. Having owned a few Fox Mustangs I disappointed where the model has been taken. Once upon a time all kinds of people could afford a Mustang and enjoy the car with whatever options. Not surprised Mustang sales have tanked. No longer affordable for the masses
Agreed on pricing.
Ford’s future is dubious. They have so much inventory that is not sold, can’t give them away. Spending billions on battery plants with no market. I doubt mustang can carry the company.
It’s the F-150 that carries the company.
I really like the FX package. Do you have any idea how much this option will cost?
I like the teal color. Keep more new colors coming! On trucks also.
This package makes an ugly car even more ugly. That fox body Cobra is beautiful, this new car with package is not.
I really like the color, the seats and the third pedal. Not crazy about the wheels. Overall its pretty cool, though.
The wheels are hideous.
Hard to imagine anyone looking at this and thinking “Oh, yeah, Fox body.” The grille nostrils are hideous and the taillight treatment isn’t much better. Ford continues its tradition of introducing a fabulous new Mustang generation and then softening and diluting its impact in mid-gen refreshes.
I remember when teal became tiresome in the ‘90s.
It’s starting to resemble a Camaro.
White wheels is an interesting choice. Brake dust will be your nemesis…
The California Highway Patrol used a Fox body mustang that topped 150mph.
1986 why are these High dollar cars not any better and they had a 10 spoke rim
with a Open lug view.?
Brake dust on White !? No thanks !
