The Chevrolet Silverado EV Puts on a Racing Suit for the Mint 400
Hall Racing wants to find out whether the decades-old “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” adage applies to electric pickups. It’s entering a Chevrolet Silverado EV in the 2025 Mint 400’s EV Open Production class.
We’re told that the Mint 400-bound Silverado EV took about five months to develop, and it gained some pretty cool hardware along the way. It’s notably fitted with prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve technology that gives both axles over 13 inches of wheel travel. And, power comes from a three-motor drivetrain rated at 1,100 horsepower. For context, the most powerful Silverado EV currently in production puts 645 horsepower under the driver’s right foot. Acceleration figures and driving range haven’t been released.
The list of modifications made to prepare the one-off truck for a grueling, 400-mile off-road race across the desert also includes a lifted suspension system, 37-inch mud-terrain tires, and locking differentials on both ends. Skid plates ensure that the battery pack doesn’t have an expensive encounter with a rock, and Chevrolet added the usual assortment of auxiliary LED lights and graphics. We haven’t seen the inside yet.

Hagerty doesn’t predict the future, but we can already tell you that the Silverado EV will win first-in-class: It’s the only truck in its class. There’s also a Rivian R1T in the race but it’s in the EV Production category, which is for vehicles that are closer to stock than those in the class Chevrolet and Hall Racing will race in.
While nothing suggests that a Mint 400-themed Silverado EV trim is in the pipeline, Chevrolet will expand the range with a Trail Boss trim level this coming summer. Due out as a 2026 model, the off-road-oriented model will stand out from the other Silverado EV variants with a lift kit, 18-inch wheels wrapped by meaty, 35-inch all-terrain tires, and red tow hooks. The truck will also gain a driving profile called Terrain Mode.
More information about the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss, including pricing and driving range, will emerge in the coming months. In the meantime, the 2025 edition of the Mint 400 starts on March 7, so we won’t have to wait long to find out how Chevrolet’s first electric truck handles itself when the going gets tough.
Seeing this thing race offroad could be interesting. But beyond that buying a truck that is limited on the truck stuff it can do makes no sense to me.
This category of EV “Truck” might lighten the demand (and lower the price) of “Real” trucks though. If all the people who don’t really NEED a truck but want the aesthetics of one, an EV seems to fill that role. While not have a sufficient towing capacity or real offroad capability, (due to the weight being over 7k lbs) an EV truck can have a nice interior, heated and cooled seats, etc. Might lower the demand for all these top trim, luxury trucks that just so happen to be able to tow. Who knows though🤷♂️
I just drove a Silverado EV and have to say it was the smoothest and best riding truck I ever have driven. Also the most quiet.
The power is great. The opening cab is very flexible. The range was over 400 miles. It would fo all I need in a truck. But the Price is still too high. But sadly the Gas trucks are catching up.
I looked at a Canyon AT4 AEM and they wanted $70k for a mid size 4 cylinder truck. Way too much.
