2020 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid will pack 670 hp

Porsche is introducing three new hybrid versions of its flagship SUV with the new Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe, the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, and the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe. At 670 horsepower and 663 lb-ft of torque, the turbocharged models will be the most powerful Cayennes Porsche has made to date.

Putting a 134-hp electric motor between the non-hybrid Cayenne Turbo’s 541-hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 and Porsche’s eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox allows the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid and Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe to scoot from 0–60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, with top speed electronically limited to 183 miles per hour. The Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe gets the regular Cayenne E-Hybrid’s 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 and electric motor, with a total power output of 455 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, yielding a 0–60 mph time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 157 mph.

All of the new Cayenne hybrids, as well as other current PHEV versions of the utility vehicle, will be using a new 14.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with 30 percent more capacity than Porsche’s previous hybrid batteries.

The three hybrid Cayennes are set off from those powered purely by fossil fuels with Acid Green borders on the SUV’s badging and matching green brake calipers. Body-color wheel arches and Porsche’s Sport Chrono Package, which comes with a Sport Response button to select driving modes, are standard equipment, as well. Both regular and “coupe” body styles will now feature two tailgate spoilers, a fixed wing above the rear window and an active spoiler that starts working at 56 mph, with five available positions, below the glass.

All-wheel drive with Porsche Traction Management is standard on all Cayenne models for the 2020 model year. The Turbo S E-Hybrids get upgrades from the conventional Cayenne Turbo models, with ceramic-composite brakes, Porsche’s Dynamic Chassis Control system, and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus as standard equipment. Also standard is a 7.2-kW onboard charger and 21-inch AeroDesign aluminum wheels. That upgraded charger allows a full recharge in 2.4 hours when using a 50-amp, 240-volt AC mains supply. With the exception of torque vectoring, all of those features can be ordered on the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe.

A sport exhaust system and rear axle steering are optional equipment, and the Coupe models can also be ordered with the Lightweight Sport Package that adds a carbon-fiber roof, 22-inch GT Design rims, the Sport Design Package, a heated multifunction sport steering wheel covered in Alcantara, an Alcantara roof liner, black and silver houndstooth-patterned seat centers, and an assortment of carbon fiber exterior parts. The Lightweight Sport Package can reduce weight by up to 48 pounds.

EPA fuel economy ratings, as if those matter to Cayenne buyers more than the Hybrid badges their neighbors can see, have not yet been released. The three new Cayenne hybrids will go on sale in the first quarter of 2020 with base MSRPs of $87,750 for the Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe, $163,250 for the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, and $165,750 for the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe, including delivery charges.
