How Much Pull Will This Olds Radio Flyer Have on the Block?
Since 1917, Radio Flyer wagons have been the wheels of choice for millions of kids. The Chicago company has expanded its lineup over the years, but only its red wagons have left an impression deep enough on the collective psyche of gearheads that they have been reproduced as extra-large motorized machines.


One such extra-large Radio Flyer is headed across the block at Mecum’s Florida Summer Special auction on July 11. Built around a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera SL with a chopped roof, this big red wagon features the Olds’ 3.8-liter V-6 and automatic transmission, along with its plush interior and A/C. The handle is easily removed for storage in a garage.

More often than not, grown-up versions of Radio Flyers have a hot-rod bent, and V-8s with headers aren’t out of the question. One custom build even had a cameo on the Tim Allen sitcom Home Improvement.
With its ’90s near-luxury roots, the Radio Flyer up for sale at Mecum is a far more sedate approach. It’s hard to guess what it might sell for, and its use case seems particularly limited to parades and … more parades? But it will certainly make a fun conversation piece for its next owner.
I would not have expected an Olds Cutlass Ciera to be the basis for this wagon. It’s definitely silly.
