1919 Locomobile Model 48

The Locomobile Company, first of Watertown, Massachusetts and later of Bridgeport, Connecticut, began building small steam cars in 1899. The company continued in the steam car business until early 1904, when a new model was introduced which established Locomobile firmly as a builder of high quality automobiles. The Model 48, which was first introduced in 1911, was Locomobile’s hallmark automobile. The Model 48 remained in production until the company’s demise in 1929. In 1914, an in-house division was established to produce custom vehicles such as this one. This impressive limousine was one of the most expensive American vehicles built at the time. Aluminum is featured extensively on this vehicle, including fan, surround, engine accessories, firewall and body.
