1929 Cord Chassis

The Cord L-29 was the first successful mass-produced front-wheel-drive American automobile. Front-wheel-drive allowed for a lower chassis, which was an auto stylist's dream. The L-29 body styles by Alan Leamy were among the greatest created in automotive history. For the first time, an entire car was designed as a single unit. This produced graceful, flowing lines that complemented each other. The chassis seen here showcases the various components not seen with the body and hood in place. From the quarter-elliptical leaf springs to the shifting mechanism, all is visible.
