1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe
Manufactured in Canada, this car lived in St. Catherines for the first 70 or so years of its life. It was brought to the US sometime in the 2010s, where it underwent restoration at the hands of owner Bob Smith. This car had cameo appearances in the movie "A Christmas Story" where it appears in the background in multiple scenes. I have the license plates used in the movie shoots as well as the original 1940 plates from the car's first registration. I purchased this car on my birthday in 2021 (not planned, but hey, it was a great present to me!).
The car is mostly original with an upgraded custom cooling system, custom shocks, and rebuilt tranny. The car was repainted in the 2010s to match the original color. The car was parked outside a barn that burned, causing some paint bubbling on the trunk and rear quarter panel.
Paint and exterior
The car was repainted in the 2010s to match the original color (engine interior, door edges, and so forth were not painted and the color match is excellent).
Upholstery and interior
Tan suede and ribbed cloth seats with a tan carpet.
Original Engine: Yes
She moves, not fast, and struggles up steep hills. But, she's 80 yrs old. I hope I move this well when I'm 80.
Original miles, the odometer has not rolled or been reset.
Wheels and tires
Original stock rims with chrome hub caps. Coker white walls. Matching spare.
Original drum brakes
3-speed, manual, on the column. The original vacuum-assist touch shift mechanism was removed.
I'm pretty sure the original factory warranty has expired by now.
