My dad was a mechanic so I had no choice but to become a car enthusiast. With 3 older sisters there was always a car that needed our (his) attention. My favorite was a 67 Pontiac Tempest. I spent hours in that car pretending to drive.

One of his favorite stories happened when I was 10. We were on vacation in Texas visiting friends and he was doing maintenance on the car. I got bored so I found something to do. When he slid out from under the car I was standing there with the grill of the car in my hands just beaming at my accomplishment. “Look Dad!”

We were also big race fans. We went to the local dirt track races almost every weekend and would watch the Wide World of Sports anytime there was auto racing on. I still enjoy visiting the local dirt tracks on the weekend.
