Hagerty Driving Academy

As part of its ongoing mission to save driving for future generations, Hagerty is partnering with the Skip Barber Racing School to introduce the Hagerty Driving Academy – a series of 40 events nationwide to teach safe, proficient driving skills, the art of shifting a manual and shares the excitement of being behind the wheel of fun cars.

During this school, participants will take part in vehicle avoidance exercises like panic braking and emergency lane changes as well as how to properly correct a skid, practice slides and recoveries, the basics of operating a manual and be introduced to performance driving on the autocross course. All participants will have the opportunity to also get behind the wheel of a fun classic car!

The Hagerty Driving Academy will be offered at more than 40 events a year with select events being free of charge to Hagerty Driving Club Members. Not a Member? Learn more and sign up here.

Hagerty Driving Experience

The Hagerty Driving Experience is a 2-hour session that puts you behind the wheel of cool classic cars, where you will learn the basics of starting, operating and driving a manual transmission from instructors and car owners themselves! In addition to the driving course, participants take part in a classroom session that outlines how a clutch and manual transmission operate.

The Hagerty Driving Experience features a variety of classic cars provided by local owners and collectors. Past events have included a 1928 Packard Phaeton, 1930 Ford Model A, 1955 Porsche Continental, 1950 Willys Jeepster, 1963 'split window' Corvette and a 1962 Aston Martin DB4!

How can I get involved with Hagerty's Driving Programs?

These programs are designed to help build the next generation of classic car enthusiasts and keep the collector community strong. Here’s three ways you can get involved with this exciting event and help connect young people with classics:

Instruct:

The only way to teach participants how to properly drive classic cars is to have classic cars to teach them with! If you have a manual classic, you can help! We encourage local car owners to volunteer to bring their classic to events and help teach the students in a safe, controlled environment.
