Preston Lerner is a Los Angeles-based freelancer who's written about various subjects ranging from food to technology for The New York Times Magazine, Texas Monthly, Men's Journal, Wired, Smithsonian and Travel & Leisure. But cars are his specialty, and racing is his passion. Formerly a contributing writer at Automobile Magazine and Popular Science, he's now a contributing editor at Road & Track. He's the author of six books -- five about cars and/or racing and one novel, a mystery titled Fools on the Hill. He enthusiastically campaigns his own Spec Miata in SCCA club races but, alas, has proven himself to be no match for the professionals he often writes about.
