We’re big fans of the Hershey Swap Meets. It’s not just a place to get all manner of classic car parts, but a spectacle unto itself. In the past, we’re taken on ambitious projects like building a Ford pickup in four days, but this year we’re going in a different direction. We’ve brought two artists together for a head-to-head challenge to raise money for charity. The Hagerty Swap Meet Showdown kicks off Wednesday, October 10; here’s how you can get involved.
The Swap Meet Showdown pits two teams, comprised of one artist and two finders, working to create one work of art per day by only using items that are purchased on site. These masterpieces will be bent and welded together to form art that is based on a theme announced each morning. The teams will begin each day with no materials and won’t know the theme ahead of time.
Once the teams are told the theme of the day, the hunt is on for all the materials they will use to make their sculpture. At the end of each day, spectators vote on the finished works to decide a winner. Voting is held onsite at our Chocolate Field booth and also via our Facebook page.
All this creativity will benefit a special cause. The finished pieces will be auctioned during RM Sotheby’s Friday evening sale, with the funds going toward the purchase of child safety seats for families in need.
It’s going to be a showdown for the ages, so be sure to keep up to date on the latest developments through Hagerty’s Facebook and Instagram pages, or drop by our booth, talk to the hunters as they scour the grounds looking for just the right pieces, and bid on the final pieces when they go up for sale.
