Auction Results: Auctions America’s 2013 Ft. Lauderdale sale

Auctions America returned to Ft. Lauderdale this past weekend, March 22-24, for its annual South Florida sale. This auction has quietly become one of the bigger events on the calendar, with results now approaching $20M. This year, the event saw 374 of 521 vehicles sell (a 72% sales rate) for a total of $17.5M, which represents 13% more automotive lots than in 2010, and a dollar volume that is 10% higher than the sale three years ago.

Notable sales include an early 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing that sold for $880,000, including buyer’s premium, and 1963 Shelby Cobra CSX2023 with a non-original motor that earned $533,500. Enthusiasts who were waiting for a 190SL to tick past $150,000 at a venue outside of Arizona, Monterey or Amelia Island took note of a $155,100 sale of a 1960 190SL. This number, along with a second 190SL that sold for $110,000, clearly signals a market shift for the model. Steve McQueen’s much-hyped 1951 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe convertible also did not disappoint at $88,000.

We have a 1994 model Cobra kit car. It has a 427 motor with the side exhaust pipes. Has approximately 4600 miles on the motor. Can you provide a rough estimate of the value? The body is fiberglass.
