257.20a Michigan Historic Vehicle ~ definition

Sec. 20a. “Historic vehicle” means a vehicle which is over 25 years old, and which is owned solely as a collector’s item and for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, and similar uses, including mechanical testing, but is not used for general transportation.     This definition needs to be updated for Michigan. Last year, Gov. Snyder amended this law to allow the use of vehicles with historic plates for the entire month of August (for Woodward Dream Cruise). The law specifically calls the month of August out as included in the definition of an "exhibition".
