Drivers of this month's change

The Hagerty Market Rating continues the upward movement experienced so far during 2018. At 65.97, it is currently at a 12-month high.

While auction activity has been mostly strong this year, a 1% drop in the number of cars offered at auction led to a dip in that section for June. A 0.5% drop in the average sale price on the private market led to a slight dip in that section as well.

Probably the most surprising trend for June comes from owner optimism. For well over a year, the number of owners of both mainstream and high-end vehicles who think that values are increasing has continued to go down. For June, though, the number for both mainstream and high-end owners saw their largest month-over-month increases in at least two years.

While it isn't weighted heavily in the overall rating, the correlated instruments section measuring external market forces increased more than any other section this month thanks to strength in the S&P500.
