Drivers of this month's change

The Hagerty Market Rating reversed a series of three consecutive decreases this month with a bump to 63.70, but the increase was small at less than a fifth of a point.

August's increase was almost entirely down to auction activity. Although the median sale price decreased, this was offset by an increase in the number of cars sold. Activity on the private market, meanwhile, saw a small decrease.

The number of both mainstream and high-end vehicle owners who think that values are growing remained flat in July, but it has generally trended downward all year and continued to do so in August.

August's rating does not factor in the results from the flurry of high-dollar auctions in Monterey that took place in the second half of the month. Monterey numbers will be included in September's rating.
