  • What are your usage restrictions/guidelines?

Simply put, we want you to enjoy your classic vehicle. While there are some restrictions in the policy, you’re covered for pleasure use, whether it's a drive on a gorgeous summer day, a trip to the ice cream shop, attending club events or going to shows. If you have specific questions about usage, especially if you own a newer vehicle (generally 1990 and newer), we're happy to discuss them with you.

  • Do you need to see photos of each vehicle during the application process?

Yes and it varies depending on the type of vehicle. We need one good photo for stock (original) vehicles, showing a full side view of the car. We need four photos for custom or modified vehicles (full vehicle, engine, interior, and trunk or bed,if it's a truck). Two photos are required for classic pickups (full vehicle and truck bed).

  • When do I need your kind of specialized coverage?

Many marine insurance policies have age limits – 15 to 20 years usually. They may also exclude or penalize wood boats. That’s where Hagerty can help. We insure more classic and wooden boats than anyone in the world.

  • Does Hagerty write coverage for comprehensive only?

Yes. "Comprehensive only" (other-than-collision) coverage is available when a car is undergoing restoration, part of a display (such as in a museum) or placed in long-term storage. Hagerty also offers coverage called Limited Trailer Paddock that provides collision coverage while your vehicle is trailered. Please call us for more details on coverage.

    Other-than-collision

Car is stationary and the tree branch crushes the roof.
    That’s Other-than-collision.

    Collision

Car is in motion and rolls into a tree. That’s Collision.
Even if no one was driving.

  • What is the difference between Hagerty's "Agreed Value" coverage and other types of insurance coverage?

There are three types of value related coverage offered in the marine insurance industry today:

    1. Actual Cash Value: This is the coverage type found most often on homeowners policies. It pays out a depreciated, “book value” in the event of a claim. The older the boat on this kind of policy, the less value it has.
    2. Stated Value: These policies are better than Actual Cash Value because they allow you to “state” a value for your boat greater than its depreciated book value. But, these policies can still depreciate vessels, because they usually allow the insurance company to pay “up to’ the stated policy amount.
    3. Agreed Value: Only Agreed Value polices guarantee you will get all of your insured value back in the event of a total loss. There is no depreciation of a vessel’s value with an Agreed Value policy, although many companies will still apply a deductible in the case of a total loss. Hagerty Classic Marine Agreed Value policies waive the deductible in the event of a total loss.

  • Who can drive my car? Can my children drive it?

It’s up to your discretion who you allow to drive your car. Just keep in mind, the same acceptable usage that applies to you applies to everyone who drives it. While Hagerty supports youth involvement in the hobby, our program guidelines requires that every driver must be fully licensed, with no state imposed restrictions (such as a suspension). Please call a licensed sales agent to discuss your specific situation.
