Meet Ashley, Hagerty Field Representative for Seattle, Washington

Ashley Shoemaker, Seattle, WA

I’m the Market Sales Manager for the Pacific Northwest where I have been helping to provide drivers with classic car insurance in Washington & Oregon. I was born and raised in Bellingham, Washington, where I graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A. in Marketing. I currently live in Seattle and have been employed with Hagerty since early 2010. My love of classic cars started at a young age, since I grew up with a 1956 Thunderbird in my household. The T-bird is still enjoyed in the family to this day and I will forever have a place in my heart for Baby Birds. Prior to joining Hagerty, I held several positions with Farmers Insurance Group and have over 11 years of work experience in the insurance industry. My hobbies include outdoor activities with our dog, summer boating with family and friends, traveling and attending Seahawks games.

What is unique about the hobby in your territory?

Washington & Oregon are two of the top states in the US in terms of registered classic cars. Over my lifetime, Seattle has become one of the fastest growing cities in America thanks to the many technology companies founded here, and the various tech companies moving here. The collector car market has grown right along with the rest of the city and with the opening of LeMay - America's Car Museum a few years back, the Seattle area is now a real hotbed for collectors. The collector car scene in Portland is extremely prominent and draws large attendance to numerous car shows and events. On any given Wednesday evening in the Summer, you’ll find 1,000+ classic cars at the weekly cruise in at PIR. The recent opening of the World of Speed Museum just South of Portland is a wonderful example of how dedicated the community is to the collector car hobby.

Washington & Oregon have beautiful scenery including lakes, mountains, forests, the Puget Sound & the Pacific coastline, and it is thoroughly enjoyed by classic car and boat owners. There are so many ideal highways and routes throughout the Pacific Northwest that are incredible for driving tours and car club weekend getaways. On any given weekend between June and September, there are multiple car shows and events taking place. It’s estimated that Seattle has more boats per capita than any other city in the US, and there’s a handful of large classic boat shows every summer. This keeps the car and boat communities quite involved and active in the hobby.

Why Hagerty? What excites you about what we do?

Hagerty is truly passionate about the hobby, and we do so much to support the collector car and boat communities across the country. It's exciting for me to see firsthand how happy people are to be out enjoying a hobby they love. I'm constantly meeting new people, building relationships with clients, seeing a variety of amazing cars and boats, and creating memories. My experience working at Hagerty is a constant fun adventure and it's a great feeling to have a career I enjoy.

Favorite car event of the year

Any driving tour or rally. The Cascade Classic Rally holds a wonderful weekend time/speed/distance rally and tour group each year at a rotating Washington destination. The TSD rally is a thrill and brings out a little of my competitive side.
