We just got 1967 Plymouth GTX in excellent condition. The seller won't give us all his receipts as promised, which he claims total approx. $70,000.00. When we sell car, does having the receipts/history on car have a value? Should I pursue?
The value of the purchase documents can be significant - as long as they show what a prospective buyer wants to see - no stories, matching numbers, long ownership, original equipment, etc. If it is a solid, quite original car with matching numbers, these documents are the proof that will open up many prospective buyer's wallets a bit wider than they would for a car with no documentation. You may be able to determine "how much" value difference they would make by contacting the appropriate marque club, or by searching auction results for similar vehicles. Find those clubs at http://www.hagerty.com/lifestyle/resourcehome.aspx?taxtype=%20-%20Car%20Clubs&taxid=380&asearchtext Sorry to hear the promised documents did not come with the car - can't imagine they have any value to the ex-owner - makes me wonder if perhaps they never existed at all.The history of a car is extremely difficult if not impossible to obtain unless there are documents with a car.
