A Hagerty Plus member telephoned to ask if a proposed purchaser looking to buy his car is trying to scam him?
The caller said the proposed transaction involved cashing a check for several thousand more than the purchase price and sending funds on to a "shipping company." This is a scam; no reputable buyer has a right to ask you to do anything of the sort. Always be wary of transactions that aren't typical or deals that are too good to be true. The Hagerty Plus member also wanted to know the best way to sell a car. Advertising in club publications or Hemmings Motor News is usually a safe bet. With Hemmings or the marque clubs, you're putting your car in front of good, reputable buyers.
