The World of Pontiac

The discontinuation of Pontiac Motor Division in 2010 has done little to dampen collectors' enthusiasm for the brand. Read on to discover what's fueling the continued passion for Pontiac. We also explore how famed advertising team Art Fitzpatrick and Van Kaufman shifted the brand's image from "third-grade schoolteacher's car" to exotic plaything.

40 years of GTOThe appeal of Pontiac: Performance and pizazz

What makes Pontiacs so popular in today's collector realm? Duh! For more than 50 years, the prime goal at General Motors' second-from-the-bottom brand was to build excitement, which Pontiac Motor Division continued doing well even after horsepower became a dirty word in the '70s.

40 years of GTOLarger than life: Pontiac through the eyes of Art Fitzpatrick

Co-creator of the far-reaching "Wide Track" campaign, Fitzpatrick, or "Fitz," set a new standard for automotive advertising, thrusting larger-than-life Pontiacs into an exotic world the likes of which the advertising community had never seen.

Too bad the designer ran out of ideas before he used the 1956 Packard Senior V8 emblem on the silver/black hood. Turning it 180 just quite does not do the trick.

My first car was a 1955 Pontiac Starchief Sport Coupe, which I sold in the summer of 1963 prior to entering the Army. The California license plate number was BBZ744 Approximately 10 years ago, I contacted the purchaser who told me that he had sold the car to a party in California recently. I am not able to locate this party. I believe that the license plate number to be the same as above. Is there any I may be able to locate the current owner of my first vehicle. I sincerely thank you very much for your assistance. I can be contacted at 831 484-6544 or juanabruce@comcast.net

Nice to see Pontiac is getting a little more respect amongst the Chevs and Mopars! Looks like my 70 Bonneville Convert might get some attention in the future. Fun!

Why does everybody ignore the Fiero as a collectable Pontiac? They finally got it right in 1988, spent millions of dollars and then canceled because it was eating in to the Firebird market.

  24. Robert Huntley,il.

    Don't forget the fiero.
