The five coolest classic car colors ever

February 06, 2013

Certain classic car colors have become indelibly associated with either an era or a particular car. During the muscle car era of the ’60s, bright shades that looked like they came straight from a roll of Life Savers were the height of cool. Happily, many of them are available again in the modern versions of the Challengers, Camaros and Mustangs available today. Here are some of the best of classic cool:
Camaro Hugger Orange: Ironically, one of the most quintessentially loud ’60s colors appeared at the very end of that decade — 1969 to be exact in the last model year of the first-generation (1967-69) Chevy Camaro ...

Happy 60th, Corvette

February 07, 2013

Last used to identify regular-production Corvettes in 1976, the “Stingray” label will again help define Chevrolet’s legendary two-seater when the long-running breed’s all-new C7 rendition goes on sale later this year.
“Stingray is one of the hallowed names in automotive history,” said GM global design vice president Ed Welburn during the C7’s celebrated introduction last month at Detroit’s North American International Auto Show ...

January 31, 2013

Corvettes have always had a certain amount of glamour that translates well onto the big screen. In a movie starring beautiful people (Stone, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin) and chock-full of stunning classic vehicles, we see way too little – just a glimpse, in fact – of the gorgeous black 1949 Jaguar XK-120 driven by Stone’s character, Grace Faraday ...

Five great movie car guest stars

January 03, 2013

We all know the movies where the car is the star — the James Bond Aston Martin DB5 from “Goldfinger” and “Thunderball” and the Mustang that tears up San Francisco in “Bullitt.” But like a great character actor who can steal a scene or two from an A-List star, there have been some great automotive cameos in movie history. Here are a few of our favorites:
“Slap Shot” (1977): In this cult classic about a down-and-out minor league hockey team, player/coach Reg Dunlop (played by the great Paul Newman) drives a not-too-shabby Baja Gold 1970 Pontiac GTO when he’s not trying to keep the infamous goons, the Hanson brothers, under control and out of jail ...
